A powerful image can do more than a paragraph of exposition

You don’t need to tell us the character is heartbroken.

You can show us…

  1. the untouched coffee

  2. the unanswered text

  3. the unmade bed at 2 in the afternoon

One vivid image carries more emotional weight than pages of description. It invites the reader in and lets them feel it.

Good writing informs; great writing evokes.

Trade exposition for imagery. Trust your reader. Let a single, striking detail say what a paragraph can’t.
