The mind is a storytelling machine.
Left to its own devices, the mind can create fantastic stories from insignificant bits and pieces of disparate information.
It’s how humans survive. Our brains cannot live in a space of the unknown, the ambiguous.
To the brain, it’s better to create a story and prepare to survive, then wait for the story to emerge and become endangered.
Storytelling is necessary, in all forms.
Use the same innate instinct to craft stories out of anything.
Try this:
Visit an antique store and buy a bunch of random objects and pictures.
Arrange them on the table so you can see everything, every detail.
Then, let your mind make connections between everything you bought.
A story will emerge. A story that only you can create.
Because not doing so leaves you open to dangers of the world.
This is what being a writer and a storyteller means to me.
